Frequently Asked Questions

How does Fibre differ from ADSL?

ADSL makes use of the older copper wire infrastructure which is more susceptible to damage, interference and is generally limited to 4Mbps in most areas. Whereas Fibre transmits data via light impulses along the fibre optic cables, which means faster connections with speeds of up to 1000Mbps (one Gigabit per second). Fibre connection is faster, more reliable, stronger and it can travel further.

What if there is no coverage in my area?

Use the coverage map to submit your interest. Select your location and contact us via the "Notify Me" pop up. We'll then be able to get in touch with you when fibre is available in your area.

Do I need a Telkom line?

Not at all. A voice line is not needed at all.

Can I keep my landline if I want to?

You could, though eNetworks FTTH service includes VoIP as an alternative option. Our added VoIP solution offers high quality voice calls over your fibre connection.

Do I need a new or different router?

Fibre operates differently to DSL, so this depends on your router. eNetworks offers a free pre-configured router (worth R955) on a 12 month sign up. You are welcome to contact us to discuss.

Support After Hours

After hours support is from 18:00 to 23:00.

For after hours support, please email (e.g. use your smartphone) your support request to ftthsupport@enetworks.co.za. You will receive an email acknowledgement with a unique ticket number, and our after hours support desk will investigate. You will be kept notified of progress by either email or a call from our support desk.

We will always ask you to perform these three easy checks:

  • Ensure that the two left LEDs on your fibre ONT are burning GREEN (PWR - power, PON - Passive Optical Network) and that the ALM (Alarm) LED is OFF.
  • Ensure your network cable between the fibre ONT and ISP router is connected
  • Please reset your fibre equipment by switching it off and back on again

Please note that fibre breaks will only be repaired by the fibre provider during their support hours, which is typically during sunlight hours.

Octotel Fault Repair

  • Minor faults are repaired within 26 hours between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Saturday.
  • Major faults (problems affecting multiple customers) are repaired within 18 hours between 08:00 and 21:00 Monday to Sunday.
